I was reading Black Swan and there was a story about the drowned worshippers.
One Diagoras, a nonbeliever in the gods, was shown painted tablets bearing worshippers who prayed, then survived a subsequent shipwreck. The implication was that praying protects u from drowning. Diagoras then asked,'' Where were the pictures of those who prayed, then drowned?''
